8/29/05 19.5 1.20 3.48 16.3 236.2 Probably could hang longer as birds only started to work it. Good bell pepper aroma and inky dark. Beautiful, 10" long, narrow, cylindrical clusters with a small shoulder. Pretty foliage, too. Great disease/insect resistance. Picked based on pH.

  8/10/05 16.2 0.69 3.18 23.5 163.8 A favorite at the market. Delicious, spicy, sweet, and pink!

8/12/05 13.9 0.72 3.28 19.3 149.5 Cracked at low Brix after rain and bell hornets descended. Made nice wine, though, with foxy hints and fruity.
Vanessa 8/10/05 17.0 0.62 3.18 27.4 171.9 Only made a few straggly clusters. Nice, firm, sweet fruit demands further trial. Lost leaves early from Downy Mildew. Vanessa 1
Tony's #1 (Interlaken) 8/10/05 15.9 0.81 2.81 19.6 125.5 A black rot and downy mildew magnet. Fruit stayed intact for market - tasty. Tony's #1 (Interlaken)

8/27/05 21.1 0.53 3.36 39.8 238.2 Only a few bunches this year, but the numbers promise great things to come!
Lucy Kuhlmann 8/11/05 20.3 1.42 3.12 14.3 197.6 The three clusters were abused by the birds. May have to be pulled with the Millot and Joffre. Lucy Kuhlmann
Marechal Foch 8/12/05 19.2 1.23 3.24 15.6 201.6   Marechal Foch 1
8/16/05 19.1 0.91 3.43 21.0 224.7 Started to crack, but generally not too badly hit by birds. May do better in drier years.
Leon Millot 8/12/05 19.2 1.35 3.22 14.2 199.1   Leon Millot
  8/18/05 17.7 1.11 3.41 15.9 205.8
8/21/05 18.8 1.14 3.29 16.5 203.5 A terrible grape here that cracks badly, birds love, and bell hornets devour. Doubt it will ever ripen here because of these problems.
Tony's #4 (Lakemont) 8/12/05 14.7 1.00 2.85 14.7 119.4   Tony's #4 (Lakemont) 1 2

8/28/05 18.9 0.87 3.42 21.7 221.1 Beautiful, huge, intact clusters of golden yellow fruit. Picked on pH but it would have hung longer. One over-cropped vine developed bad anthracnose, but generally pretty tough on the fungus front.
Mars seedless 8/12/05 15.5 0.82 3.16 18.9 154.8 A favorite at the market with subtle foxiness and few seed remanants. Mars seedless 1 2

8/29/05 15.7 1.05 3.27 15.0 167.9 Mild muscatiness with oblong fruit. Powdery mildew on fruit early caused some trouble. Should hang longer.

8/29/05 16.7 1.05 3.36 15.9 188.5 A real grower as upright as corn plant. Fruit shows Edelweiss X Villard Blanc parentage. Picked on pH.
DeChaunac 8/22/05 19.3 1.00 3.19 19.3 196.4   DeChaunac
8/29/05 19.8 0.83 3.25 23.9 209.1 Hanging well with minimal bird action while neighboring Baco Noir was beat. Should hang for better ripeness.

9/9/05 17.5 0.88 3.24 19.9 183.7 Bronzing and berry dehydration led to harvest. A nice bottle of wine resulted.

9/9/05 22.0 0.75 3.40 29.3 254.3 Superb! I'd take a vineyard of this one. Fruit hung well, vines very disease tolerant, balanced growth. A breeding triumph.

9/9/05 22.5 0.84 3.29 26.8 243.5 Like Chardonel, a fine vine. Fruit bronzed but hung well and had a heavenly fruity aroma. Can't wait for the wine!
Buffalo 8/27/05 17.3 0.71 3.31 24.5 189.5   Buffalo
8/29/05 17.2 0.63 3.35 27.3 193.0 Chemistry blew me away. Waited for foxiness that never came - only neutral winegrape aromas developed. Vine downy prone, but good, tough fruit of surprisingly good balance and flavor.
St. Vincent 8/29/05 14.4 1.36 3.00 10.6 129.6 Harvested the few bunches way too early. Should hang on well for much better ripeness. St. Vincent
NY Muscat 8/29/05 18.0 0.54 3.42 33.3 210.5 Ooooh muscat! What an aroma and flavor with low acid to make it taste SWEET! A great grape and a tough vine. NY Muscat 1
Elvira 8/29/05 14.6 1.24 3.29 11.8 158.0 Cracked like no other grape in the vineyard >80% of fruit blew overnight. Bell hornet fest followed by salvage harvest. Elvira 1

9/16/05 18.3 0.42 3.44 43.6 216.6 Mmmmm, Steuben. This should be grown instead of Concord. A far superior muscatty flavor and great vine. Excellent on all counts!

9/20/05 21.2 0.92 3.32 23.0 233.7 Good, consistent cropper of solid fruit that takes the rain. Some bell hornet action, but vines are healthy and well-balanced. Clusters huge, big berries, and neutral flavor/aroma.
Tony's #5 (Remaily seedless) 9/3/05 16.3 0.54 3.45 30.2 194.0 Gigantic clusters of elongate berries going from green to light yellow. Succeptable to everything, but sells like crazy at the market. Tony's #5 (Remaily seedless) 1 2

9/16/05 16.7 0.35 3.72 47.7 231.1 Delicious! Big, red berries on small, compact clusters. Very sweet due to the low acidity. Harvest on pH. Lovely wine-like flavor and only somewhat foxy, much less than Concord and Catawba.
Melody 9/6/05 17.2 1.17 3.27 14.7 183.9 Picked the 2 clusters for testing. Downy succeptible, needs further trial. Melody

9/16/05 17.1 0.58 3.13 29.5 167.5 Should hang longer. Some shot berries, uneven ripening, may be due to young vines.

9/9/05 19.0 0.84 3.40 22.6 219.6 Picked based on pH. Beautiful, long, yellow clusters. Berries tough and untouched by birds and hornets. Vines downy mildew prone, but fruit is excellent.
Concord 9/6/05 14.0 0.45 3.45 31.1 166.6 Ye old stinky labrusca! Smells like a wild fox grape in the vineyard. Fruit is strongly foxy and sweet at first followed by sour pulp and skin. Flavor is coarse compared to other labrusca hybrids. Fruit had some green berries, but hangs tough and vines are very vigorous and healthy. Sold all at market in one morning. If they only knew what they COULD have instead. Concord 1
Vincent 9/6/05 15.0 1.08 3.36 13.9 169.3   Vincent 1 2

9/16/05 14.0 0.78 3.34 17.9 156.2 Brix fell(!) through ripening, but color became VERY dark. Fruit hung pretty well with only minor bird/hornet damage. Vines healthy, upright and easy to manage. A good teinturier grape.
Wiggins Spring labrusca seedling 9/6/05 12.5 1.20 3.23 10.4 130.4 Berries shell slightly at ripeness, tough skin, extremely foxy/musky, small clusters of 1/2-3/4" berries (black), vine very healthy and vigorous. Low acid for a purely wild vine. Wiggins Spring labrusca seedling
Rougeon 9/6/05 14.5 1.18 3.14 12.3 143.0   Rougeon 1

9/20/05 16.6 0.78 3.25 21.3 175.3 Beautiful rupestris X vinifera foliage on vine. Fruit black in small clusters that were moderately abused by the birds and hornets. Close enough in ripening to Chambourcin to be a good blender with it for color. Good neutral fruit, vines pretty healthy.
Colobel 9/6/05 15.5 2.06 3.05 7.5 144.2   Colobel 1

10/2/05 18.2 1.30 3.53 14.0 226.8 High acid & pH, but inky color and late. Sun exposed fruit dessicated while hidden fruit stayed in good condition. Good enough for a coloring grape if needed late in season.
Neptune 9/6/05 18.5 0.81 3.12 22.8 180.1   Neptune
9/14/05 19.6 0.68 3.20 28.8 200.7 Lovely ladyfinger grapes with crispy-crunchy flesh and a flavor as close to apples as I've tasted in a grape. Vine and fruit are weak and succeptable to all fungi infections, but fruit may be worth the spraying.
Stevenson Brook riparia winegrape seedling 9/17/05 18.9 1.32 3.03 14.3 173.5 Small, black grapes on tiny compact clusters. Fruit mildly and cleanly foxy, like Beta but not so strong. Vine extremely healthy and vigorous. Fruit in excellent condition at harvest, could (and should) have hung 'til October. Test red wine very enjoyable without herbaceosuness. Vine extremely vigorous and healthy, much like a wild labrusca. Aroma almost bubble-gum like. Makes a tasty sweet rose wine. Fruit with thick skins, tough pulp, and huge seeds cracks badly. Sees the entire season of bugs and rot, and ripens very late and irregularly. It hangs pretty well if the late rains aren't heavy, but once cracked, watch out for hornets.
